Help! Driver's license and car insurance?

So I have my license (18), but I still no vehicle. At riding in a car of my mother, is that ok? we must at the request of the insurance Comany and tell them that my name to add to our self insurance? We have to pay more money? thanx for ur time! PS we r in Maine

You must notify your insurance because your insurance company must by law, all licensed drivers in the household. The insurance premium may increase, but you must do, or your mothers are canceled policy.

Temporary car insurance for provisional license holders?

Is there a company car insurance only for a brief preliminary Period? I take my exam in December, and think it is useful to be able to travel at home and in my teaching weeks – but can not afford to full whack now. Can I be assured for a few months until I too pass my exam?
